London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone is set to expand yet again in August this year, with Mayor Sadiq Khan looking to slash vehicle emissions in the capital. Many petrol and diesel vehicles are non-compliant with the ULEZ, meaning Londoners, and those in surrounding areas, will need to upgrade their vehicles, potentially to electric cars.
Aidan Rushby at Carmoola said: “It’s predicted that EV costs will drop in the next decade as battery technology improved and mass production cuts costs.
“In the short term, electric cars may have a higher price tag, but charging them is much cheaper than refilling a tank with fuel.
“You’re sure to save money in the long run if you drive an electric car.”
The following are some of the cheapest electric cars to switch to for those looking to avoid the ULEZ expansion.

Citroen Ami
This may be one of the cheapest electric vehicles on the market today, with a new model retailing for as little as £19.99 a month
The Ami was featured on the most recent series of Top Gear, with the hosts using the car to dash around Paris, without producing any emissions.
Drivers can reach a top speed of 28mph in just 10 seconds, while the range of 46 miles makes it the perfect option for urban commuting.
Volkswagen e-up!
Despite its small size, the VW packs a punch with 159 miles of range for a very modest price tag of £21,000. The e-up! also comes with a number of useful features like a dedicated smartphone dock, ambient lighting and compatibility with the We Connect app.
Thanks to its small stature, the vehicle can be recharged to 80 percent in just an hour, with it being an excellent choice for the daily commute.
Mazda MX-30
With the ULEZ expanding, many drivers will need a sturdy, reliable car which can be used for longer journeys as well as short trips across the city. The electric SUV retails for around £30,000 and comes with a range of 124 miles, with experts praising the interior for being stylish and comfortable.
The only downside is the up to six-month waiting time, although this is a shorter period of time than other popular models like the Kia EV6 and Volkswagen ID.3.
