If you’re searching for back-to-office outfit inspiration, look no further than Jalil Johnson. The fashion office assistant of Saks Fifth Avenue has an array of stellar mirror selfies on Instagram that stand to brighten up any feed or even push someone to expand their fashion palette. In one image, Johnson, 24, wears a Calvin Klein 205W39NYC cowhide leather jacket with a slip skirt and a pair of heeled boots. In another, she sports an oversized sweater with leopard print shorts and yet another pair of knee-high leather boots (this time with a square toe), or a large psychedelic bubble skirt by Christopher John Rogers with a bateau striped shirt.
Johnson, 22, is a longtime sartorial superfan. He grew up in the small town of Hurt, Virginia where he was inspired by his family, magazines, and the internet. While growing up, he wore his literal Sunday best with his family to go to church. “My mom and my grandma were really big on dressing up,” he says. “They would make sure they didn’t wear a suit they wore a few Sundays ago, or to wear a hat or not. And then the shoes! My mom was more adventurous with her shoes!” From afar, one of the most pivotal influences was the Vogue September 2015 issue with a Beyoncé cover. “That was my ‘aha moment,’” he says. “That was definitely like the catalyst. It was already budding as a kid, but then the Beyoncé cover ignited the flame.”
