After something a little more ~traditional~? Head to Etsy for personalised Christmas stockings crafted from Liberty fabrics, or The White Company for adorable knitted and faux fur iterations that’ll last nothing short of a lifetime.
3. Christmas Baubles
As is tradition, Etsy has released a 2022 Christmas Trend report in anticipation of the Christmas countdown. Their most prominent finding? It’s time for dopamine dressing to move over and make room for dopamine gifting. That’s right: the must-have Christmas decor trend this year is “Merry and Bright”, not least because rainbow hues have a powerfully positive effect on our psyche.
Need proof? There has been a 346% increase in searches for disco ball decor*, an 86% increase in searches for vibrant wall art*, a 34% increase in searches for hot pink fashion items* and a 24% increase in searches for colourful wreaths* on Etsy over recent weeks, suggesting playful and mood-boosting Christmas decor is going to be big news. A white Winter Wonderland no more.
The easiest way to inject the trend in your Christmas decor scheme is through Christmas baubles – and this lot are here to spread cheer well beyond the New Year. From multi-packs of brightly-coloured glass baubles at Oliver Bonas to cute yellow double-decker buses at Selfridges, there’s a plethora of choice.
4. Christmas Garlands
Another trend worth noting? “Enchanted forest”, according to Etsy’s Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson. “The desire to connect with the natural world in recent years began as a form of escapism, and continues to influence our home decor, with natural, wild and foraged-inspired foliage taking centre stage in this enchanted fantasy-meets-reality forest aesthetic.”
Wonderfully, we’re seeing the Enchanted Forest trend come through in a big way in the Christmas garlands space, with tonnes of emerald green (coincidentally, Etsy’s Colour of the Year), midnight blue and leaf-adorned designs. Oliver Bonas’ moon and star garland uses the woodland accent of wooden beads, while The White Company’s Ultimate and Symons garlands bring the outdoors in.
Keen to take things one step further? Layer velvet and faux fur accents against dark tableware speckled with metallic flecks and trims to infuse mystery and drama to your Christmas tablescape.
5. Christmas Tableware
According to Etsy, shoppers have fallen in love with all things nostalgic this season. In particular, retro kitchen accessories which are having a major moment. Sustainable and stylish, vintage-inspired tableware pieces add a healthy dose of personality to your Christmas table – and they can be used year-after-year. Shop our edit of vintage-inspired Christmas tableware below which you can shop now and keep forever, from table runners to Santa coffee mugs, Champagne glasses and markers that distinguish your camembert from your brie.
Artificial Christmas trees were once considered a tacky festive faux pas, but today, they’re luxe and realistic. Already flying off the shelves (you’d better act quickly if you want one of exceptional quality), they are the centrepiece of any living room during the festive season.
Tree toppers are either the first or the last thing you pop on your Christmas tree, so you want to make sure you go for something that’ll set the precedent for the rest of your scheme. Select a tree topper that’ll catch the eyes of your guests and lead them on a guided journey, down the bauble-adorned branches to the (professionally wrapped) best Christmas gifts underneath.
