It’s always fun to see red carpets full of bold statements and risks, but sometimes, the best fashion moments are the ones that take a much quieter approach. That was certainly the case this past week: Hollywood stars embraced designs that were clean and classic, and delivered ensembles that were subtle yet strong. There was a clear emphasis on great cuts, impactful colors, and texture.
Some A-listers chose frocks that shined bright—literally. At the Peter Pan & Wendy premiere in London, for one, Yara Shahidi chose Alexander McQueen’s golden beaded gown. The strapless turtleneck design was just streamlined enough to let those shimmering beads take the spotlight. At the White House Plumbers premiere in New York City, Kiernan Shipka wore a strapless Oscar de la Renta minidress that was completely covered in ombré sequins. While their dresses majorly reflected light, the pared-back shape made them feel tasteful and timeless.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, other celebrities went for more discreet, all-black ensembles. At the Ghosted premiere in New York, Ana de Armas rocked Louis Vuitton’s black tuxedo gown with leather lapels. At a screening for Slip in Hollywood, Dakota Johnson slipped into a chic black suit by The Row, though she finished it off with a deep-V underlayer for a sexier feel. It’s easy for an outré design to be memorable, but perfect simplicity is even more compelling.
Other highlights this week? Rihanna’s fuzzy Y2K tube top by JW Anderson, Priyanka Chopra’s sizzling red Vivienne Westwood gown, and Kate Middleton’s elegant coat dress.
