Now that the spring season is officially here, it’s finally time to shed fall’s heavy outerwear and layers in favor of looks that are lighter and airier. There’s no time like the present for a wardrobe reset! This was certainly the case on the global red carpets this week: Hollywood A-listers showed skin with evening dresses that felt easy, breezy, and not stuffy at all.
At the PaleyFest in Hollywood, for instance, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan chose Altuzarra’s tie-dye gown with cutouts at the midriff, an upbeat frock that would look just as splendid at the beach. At her Dead Ringers premiere in New York, Rachel Weisz also went the summery route with her red halter-style velvet Valentino dress. Strapless shapes dominated the week overall: Anne Hathaway chose a black rosette Givenchy mini dress in Tokyo, while Hoyeon Jung wore a strapless, corseted-style Louis Vuitton number to the GQ Global Creativity Awards in New York. The spring style M.O. is clear: Expose those shoulders!
Even the week’s more covered-up ensembles revealed a little skin. At the premiere of The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die in New York City, Allison Williams stepped out in a floor-length, long-sleeved black Armani gown punctuated with a deep-V neckline. At a Variety event in New York, Lea Michele also looked to Brandon Maxwell for a floor-length dress in chocolate leather. It too was finished with a plunging neckline and cutouts across the middle. Turns out, head-to-toe leather carries over nicely into the warmer months.
