Set on the luxurious French Riviera, the Cannes Film Festival is perhaps the chicest event on the movie calendar, and likewise, the Cannes beauty looks are known for their unadulterated glamour.
The prestigious annual occasion is a celebration of the art of film-making and an opportunity to showcase the best films, whilst also previewing new releases. The festival has helped to launch the careers of top actors, directors and producers, so it’s a big deal, and the event’s top prize, the Palme D’Or, is one of the most sought after awards in the industry.
Nestled on the glittering Cote D’Azur with it’s slick motor yachts, palatial hotels and exquisite food, the festival, which lasts for two weeks every May, is also an excuse to pick out the dreamiest beauty trends heading into summer. And while the glam at Cannes tends to lean toward more timeless classics, we’ve also seen some beautifully executed avant-garde and experimental beauty moments.
Here are some of our favourite Cannes beauty moments from 2023…
Jelly lipgloss
Not a matte lip girl? No worries, we’ve been seeing plenty of ultra glossy, jelly lip looks in fruity shades of coral, tangerine, berry and peach. It’s fun and fresh for summer but it can look surprisingly delicate and elegant, as Jennifer Lawrence showed on the red carpet.
Pascal Le Segretain
Bare lids and bold lips
We don’t believe in beauty rules, but the whole “lips or eyes” spiel makes a lot more sense when pushed to the extreme like Iris Law. The model opted for totally bare eyelids and a subtle coat of mascara before going big on a scene-stealing statement dark red lip.
Marc Piasecki
Sea-mist hair
Wet-look hair may not be new, but it’s a vibe heading into summer. Laura Harrier’s sleek, flicked bob, looked lightly misted by a sea breeze, which is very fitting for Cannes’ coastal location, but would look just as incredible for summer in the city.
