NBC viewers were distraught to see Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Keen (played by Megan Boone) leave the series at the end of season eight. With another instalment of The Blacklist just round the corner, is there still a chance the skilled Special Agent managed to fake her death and is planning a dramatic return?
Liz Keen is dead, Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington (James Spader) is missing and the taskforce has disbanded in the latest season of the gripping NBC crime drama.
Red’s daughter was tragically shot dead at the end of season eight, marking the end of an era for The Blacklist.
Two years after the devastating event, Red is slowly rebuilding his team and hunting down the world’s most dangerous criminals.
However, the FBI informant is still mourning the loss of his daughter, and the taskforce may not ever feel the same again.

With new episodes of season nine arriving in January, fans have been speculating what’s coming next for the notoriously unpredictable series.
One theory has suggested Liz may not be quite as dead as she appears.
As the true identity of ‘Red’ has been a matter of contention throughout the series, they took to Reddit to propose another game-changing twist could be on the horizon.
User frankthebeachcomber posted: “Prior to season 9, Red was Katarina R. Now Red is… Elizabeth Keen.
The post continued: “Everyone remember all those times during past seasons Red (Katarina) said that Elizabeth would have to make a very difficult decision?
“It was the decision to assume the identity of Raymond Reddington and take over the empire.
“So she decided to take over at the end of season eight… and has now become Red.”
Liz’s storyline seemed to be building up to something even bigger before series lead Megan Boone decided to exit the role.
Her unexpected departure could instead be another misdirect to catch fans off-guard when Liz eventually returns with a new identity.
Unfortunately, most fans in the comments weren’t quite so convinced by this fans’ far-out theory.
Redditor DCI_Benway argued: “You can’t just throw something like this out there without theorising how it would have been pulled off.”
Although Dreamsmysaviour admitted: “Honestly, I’d take this theory over the s**t show that was the season 8 finale.
