The Miami Heat stand out as a top candidate to land Damian Lillard, but they may not have the right pieces to acquire the superstar scorer.
On Tuesday morning’s SportsCenter, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski said the Portland Trail Blazers are “not impressed” with what the Portland Trail Blazers can offer for Lillard. Although Lillard prefers to go to Miami, Portland wants “maximum value” if trading the seven-time All-Star.
“Miami at the minimum needs a third team, probably to take on Tyler Herro and to have those assets from that team sent to Portland,” Wojnarowski said, via Evan Sidery. “Portland doesn’t have interest in taking on Tyler Herro.”

According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Heat are “all in” on acquiring Lillard. They’re willing to offer anybody outside of Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo.
However, they only have two first-round picks available for trade. Herro is likely Miami’s best player available, but the Blazers are already guard-heavy after drafting Scoot Henderson with the No. 3 pick.
That could complicate a deal for Lillard, who formally requested a trade on Saturday. He averaged a career-high 32.2 points per game in his 11th season with the Blazers, who finished 27-55.
Wojnarowski said Portland is focused on securing a better return for its longtime franchise anchor than it believes Miami can offer.
