The ‘bloody delicious’ craft beer that’s one of the best

0

Our resident beer writer (best job in the world, right?!) has sipped his way through everything from Emu Bitter to double hazy triple-IPAs.

Trying out this week’s sip, David Johns gives his verdict on the Tinnie of the Week and whether it’s worth cracking one with a mate.

BEER NAME?

Otherside Experimental Hazy Double.

WHERE’S IT FROM?

The beers in Otherside Brewing Company’s experimental range are touted as “true micro-brews”.

The limited edition tinnies have included everything from a Banana Shake IPA to a Red Creaming Sour — and they’re most definitely worth a crack while they’re on the shelf.

The Hazy Double is one of the latest in the limited range — and is impressive from start to finish.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?

The Hazy Double pours with a rich golden hue that is a sight to behold for lovers of hazy beers.

A very fresh, fruity aroma greets your nose so that you know what you’re in for well before you take your first sip.

Make no mistake about it – this beer is pretty much as juicy as they come.

Bright, tropical flavours smack you in the mouth from the get-go, with passionfruit, peach and even a hint of strawberry.

The geniuses at Otherside use two different hop combinations to come up with the Hazy Double.

Mosaic hops bring the tropical and berry flavours while the experimental HBC 630 hops add a depth to the palate that lifts the brew up a notch. It has an IBU of 48, which means it packs enough punch without the bitterness taking over completely.

In short — it’s bloody delicious.

SHOULD I SHARE IT?

This one comes in at a hefty 8.7% and packs 2.6 standard drinks a can — so it’s a good idea to share it with your friends.

If you have too many of these in one sitting, it’ll be sure to make you feel a little hazy the next morning.

WHAT’S THE DAMAGE?

A single can will set you back $8.99 but that is a small price to pay for a quality brew.

RATING?

4.5 out of 5.
