A PICTURESQUE Scottish beach has been compared to the Caribbean thanks to its crystal clear waters and sugary white sand.
Located in Assynt, Achmelvich Beach is one of the MUST-SEE spots along the North Coast 500 driving route.

Only five hours from Glasgow, the remote paradise is sure to see plenty of holidaymakers stop to take in the breath-taking views.
The Scottish Beach Project described the nearby coastal village of Lochinver as a “gateway to a host of beautiful sandy beaches popular with holidaymakers and NC500 tourers.”
Dave, who runs the project said: “This is many people’s favourite Scottish beach and it’s easy to see why.
“A three-mile single track road leads to what is essentially a mini-village with a campsite, caravan park and youth hostel.
“In summer, this place is heaving with families, walkers and water sports enthusiasts, but on this beautiful sunny day in April there were only a handful of people sitting along the back of the bay.
“A visiting sailing boat was moored along the shore, conjuring up a real Caribbean vibe against the cloudless sky.
“Further along the headland lies a second deserted white beach, equally spectacular.
“There’s no doubt Achmelvich deserves its top billing.”
The beach is an ideal spot for water sports or even rock pool fishing and there has been numerous sightings of porpoises, dolphins, and even the occasional minke whale.
The Scottish Beach Project is one man’s ‘overly ambitious’ attempt to explore the beautiful cost of Scotland by visiting every beach the country has to offer.
He said: “The beaches of Scotland are proving to be an intoxicating mix of breath-taking natural wonder, health-enhancing exercise and life-affirming experiences.”
The Scottish Sun previously named the beach on the ultimate NC500 road trip, claiming that the walk around the beach would take some beating.
Scotland’s North Coast 500 was also voted the UK’s best road trip earlier this year.
With its impressive 516-mile stretch of magnificent coastal views, and attractions along the way including castles and distilleries there is something for everyone to enjoy.
