Summer seems to have crept up on the UK this year, but there’s no need to worry if you’re yet to book a summer staycation.
New research from Which? Travel has found there are still several cheap cottages available for a week’s stay in August.
The team looked at prices for nearly 10,000 one, two and three bedroom properties to find the cheapest destinations for a last-minute break.
Jo Rhodes, deputy editor of Which? Travel, said: “It’s not too late to book a last-minute break this August: there are still plenty of great-value holiday cottages available in the UK.”
Luckily, Britons will find a few hotspots have cottages on offer for under £600 per week, but where was the cheapest destination?
Durham and Tyne & Wear was the cheapest destination for a last minute cottage holiday this August.
It’s even cheaper for tourists looking for a one bed cottage, at just £422 per week. Staffordshire was hot on its heels.
Jo said: “The area around Durham and Tyne and Wear offers the cheapest prices – under £80 a night on average for a two or three-bed property.
“Flexibility on location can really help you cut costs. For example, holidaymakers who swap Cornwall for Devon can save around £100 on a week’s stay.
“Similarly, those with their hearts set on the Lake District can make significant savings by staying outside of the borders of the national park. Whatever you do, always shop around to make sure you’re getting the best possible price.”
