AS the airport, not to mention cost of living, crisis continues, lots of us are looking to stay a little closer to home this summer.
And that’s no bad thing. The UK has amazing landscapes and charming cities, not to mention world-class attractions.
However, picking the ultimate staycation destination can be challenging, especially now money is tight. So choosing a destination which offers good value makes sense.
And it seems Aberdeen is the UK’s best value for money staycation spot.
The Granite City took the coveted number one slot in research carried out by Buzz Bingo with the price of a six-day Airbnb stay coming in at £786 for August 8-14.
Even getting there is cheapest IF you use public transport, come in at an average of £1,312 for a family of four staying in a hotel for six nights.

However total staycation cost including car rental, was an average of £1,971 and that’s because the city is the most expensive to hire a car – costing £112.39 for six days.
The city has beautiful beaches, including the historic fishing area of Footdee, Torry Battery – a fabulous vantage point to watch dolphins playing in the North Sea and the newly restored Aberdeen Art Gallery.
It’s also a great place to explore the rest of the east and north of Scotland, with rugged coastlines, secluded beaches and more hikes than you can shake a walking stick at!
However, if you plan on visiting Edinburgh, be prepared to spend a little more. The capital came in as the most expensive city to visit.
A trip here will set you back a total of £3,894 for a six-day stay in an Airbnb and getting around using public transport. A cheaper alternative would be to book a hotel on Booking.com, which would average out at around £2,684.
But it wasn’t all bad news for the city, Edinburgh topped the list of family-friendly cities in the UK, offering attractions such as the National Museum of Scotland and the World of Illusions.
London came second with things to do – ranging from the iconic Harry Potter bus tour to Paddington Bear’s walking tour as part of the experience.
Glasgow and Oxford came in third place each thanks to their museums and woodland parks.
The UK capital was also the most pet-friendly city with 175 hotels which welcome dogs.
Edinburgh followed closely in second place with 33 pet-friendly hotels that are both central and near parks, allowing pets to explore. Newcastle and Cardiff were next each with 30 pet-friendly hotels.
According to research, Belfast is the most expensive city to dine in during a staycation.

However, it wasn’t the only expensive one on the list, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol, Liverpool, and London all came second with an average of £45.00 per meal.
Plymouth is the cheapest city overall with an average price of meal price of just £30.00. The city is well known for its love for traditional English food and has proved to be popular among visitors.
