A haircut that’s classy, elegant, timeless and suits every single face shape sounds too good to be true, right? Enter the Chelsea cut – a mid length cut that gives plenty of movement, bounce and texture to literally anyone’s hair.
Jack Merrick-Thirlway, creative director at Neville Hair & Beauty, created the Chelsea cut to bridge the gap between the perennially popular bob and more play-it-safe long hairstyles. We’ve all sat in the hairdresser’s hot seat and been told inches need to be removed from the hair we’ve been growing for years to tackle our split ends – and we’ve all feared out with a pixie cut as a result. That’s exactly where the Chelsea cut comes into play: it’s the ideal haircut for damaged ends because it will banish split ends but maintain some length, body and movement.

“The Chelsea cut is classy, elegant and timeless,” Jack tells GLAMOUR. “It suits everyone who has hair longer than shoulder length. It frames the face and the style is soft and gives lots of movement because the layers start shorter around the face and get longer towards the back, allowing us to maintain weight at the bottom but give bounce and texture throughout.”
The best way to style the Chelsea cut is to rough dry your hair first, and then add some blowdry lotion (like Loreal Pli) before taking a large round barrel brush to it (we love the Neville Hair brush). Using your large brush, blowdry the hair in sections and then put the hair in medium velcro rollers to set the style. Leave the rollers in for ten minutes until they are cool and finally finish off with some soft hairspray.

Need some inspo? Kim Kardashian is championing the style – and pulls it off with aplomb. Last week, Kim’s go-to hairstylist Chris Appleton revealed the star has a short new hairstyle. “What are you guys going to the shorter hair and Kim in Milan,” he captioned the image, which showcased Kim’s voluminous Chelsea cut.
We’re into it.
