Brits may not realise that a number of holiday hotspots including some Caribbean islands ban people from wearing camouflage clothing.

In some of these countries, these garments are associated with rebels or terrorist organisations.

Others do not allow normal people to wear camo gear so that the public isn’t confused between them and the military.

Common Brit holiday destinations where they are banned include Barbados, Jamaica, and Bahamas.

Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia, South Africa and Oman are just some of the other destinations where it is banned.

Cruise passengers have also been warned of the rules when getting off the ship on Caribbean excursions.

The penalties vary in each country, but in Grenada you could be sent to jail while in other places you’ll just be asked to get rid of the offending item.

In 2017, a man in Uganda was charged after he wore a camouflage cap.

And in 2018, a 26-year-old man was charged in Antigua after he was caught with camouflage clothing on him.

Here is the full list of destinations where it is banned to wear it:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Jamaica
  • Nigeria
  • Oman
  • Saint Lucia
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • South Africa
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Uganda
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe

It’s not the only clothing item that can get you in trouble.

Some Spanish resort have banned tourists from walking around in their swimsuits unless they are on the beach.

And other places in Spain have banned football shirts to curb disruptive behaviour from Brits.

There are also strict rules about what you can wear on planes – we’ve rounded up some of the outfits that got passengers kicked off their flights.

And here are five other laws you may be breaking on holiday that you may not realise.
