The Crown has re-entered the global top ten shows on Netflix this week in the wake of the Queen’s death.

The streaming giant confirmed the drama, which centres around the history of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family through the 20th century, has emerged at number seven on the top shows being watched around the world.

Viewers have revisited series one which depicts the coronation of the Queen, played by Claire Foy, in 1953.

The programme is currently in the top ten across 26 different countries.

The streaming platform confirmed: “Fans revisited season one of The Crown, which was in the seventh spot with 17.57M hours viewed.”

Actress Claire Foy, who played the Queen in seasons one and two of the series, paid tribute to the late monarch at the Toronto Film Festival.

She said: “I think that she was an incredible monarch.

“She united people and she was a massive symbol of continuity and dignity and grace.”

Actress Olivia Colman continued the role for seasons three and four of the series.

In her own tribute to the Queen she said: “She made a promise as a young woman and she absolutely kept it with such dignity.”

Imelda Staunton is set to take on the coveted role in the next series of The Crown, however production has paused out of respect for the Royal Family in the wake of the Queen’s death.

The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan described the programme as a love letter” to Queen Elizabeth II and stated: “I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.”
