The CW has officially renewed its crime drama series, Walker, for a fourth season. The show, which premiered on the network in January 2021, has been a ratings hit, with its third season becoming the network’s most-watched linear series among total viewers. Despite receiving mixed critical reviews, the series has garnered a passionate fanbase, making it an easy decision for The CW to renew the show. Jared Padalecki, who stars in and executive produces the show, expressed his excitement about continuing the show’s legacy for another season. The President of Entertainment for The CW, Brad Schwartz, also released a statement praising the show’s cast and creative team and the passionate fanbase that has made the show a success.
“Over the past three seasons, ‘Walker’ has become the top performing series on The CW with a passionate fanbase and a fantastic cast and creative team led by Jared Padalecki, who has now been a leading man on the network for over twenty years. As we build a great big new future for The CW, we are thrilled to be staying in business with our partners at CBS Studios, and we cannot wait to have ‘Walker’ back on the schedule.”
As Nextar takes over as the new owner of The CW, the network is preparing for the next TV season, with Walker being the first scripted series selected under Nextar’s leadership. However, Season 4 will have only 13 episodes, the lowest count for the series so far. This is likely a result of Nextar’s cost-cutting strategy, which aims to focus on lower-cost scripted programming to increase profits. The CW plans to produce fewer scripted shows catering to a broader demographic while focusing on unscripted shows like FBoy Island. The fate of other CW shows, like Superman & Lois, Kung Fu, Gotham Knights, and All American: Homecoming, is uncertain. Regardless, fans of Walker can expect another action-packed and engaging season that has made the show such a success, with the talented ensemble cast returning and the show written and executive produced by Anna Fricke.
The CW Cancels Walker Prequel, Renews Parent Series for Fourth Season
The CW has made some major decisions regarding its lineup of shows. While Walker was renewed for a fourth season, Walker: Independence, the prequel to the show, was canceled after just one season. The prequel show premiered in October and ran for a 13-episode season, which ended in March. Unfortunately, Walker: Independence only managed to attract 440,000 live same-day viewers, a figure that fell short of the network’s expectations. Despite the fact that Walker is currently The CW’s most-watched linear series, the spinoff failed to generate a similar level of interest from viewers. As a result, the network has opted to cancel the show and seek out new U.S. originals to replace it.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, The CW plans to introduce two new U.S. original shows in the fall to replace Walker: Independence. Both of these shows will consist of 13 episodes. Additionally, the network will replace these shows with two more U.S. originals come midseason. Walker fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment of the action-packed show, which features a talented cast, including Jared Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan, Keegan Allen, Mitch Pileggi, and Coby Bell. The third season of the show is set to conclude on May 11, 2023.
