The Portugal international left Manchester United this January and now plies his trade with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. Ronaldo has been the biggest name to join the Saudi Pro League and has been followed by numerous players this season.
Top players like N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and many others have joined different Saudi Pro League clubs this summer which has threatened the supremacy of European Football up to a certain extent.
With many young, talented players leaving European football, it has asked questions about the quality of several European leagues and has definitely raised the bar of the Saudi League. Amid this, Ronaldo has given his verdict on whether we may see him back in Europe anymore.
When asked about him playing for any European team in coming days, Ronaldo says there is no chance that he will don the shirt of a European club again.
“I won’t return to European football, the door is completely closed,” Ronaldo said in a post-match press conference after a friendly match against Celta de Vigo.
“I’m 38 years old, also European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one is Premier League, they’re way ahead of all the other leagues,” he added.
The former Manchester United player was subject to a lot of criticism for the manner he left the Premier League club. He was bashed for joining Al Nassr in Saudi but the player says he has been the factor for this sudden upsurge in Saudi football.
“I opened the way to the Saudi League, and now all the players are coming here. My decision to join Saudi clubs was 100% crucial to bring in new top players. In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi,” Ronaldo further said.
He also added that in a year’s time, the quality of Saudi League will surpass the Turkish and Dutch leagues.
It is to be seen how he fares this season at Al Nassr, as his club narrowly missed out on the league title last season. Ronaldo can be the driving factor behind his team’s success this season.
