At last, we have our first trailer for the long-awaited fourth installment in the action series, The Expendables courtesy of Lionsgate. Once again starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture, The Expendables 4, which has now been officially titled Expend4bles, will bring the titular team of action heroes back to the screen for the first time since The Expendables 3 back in 2014.
A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in Expend4bles. Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give “new blood” a whole new meaning.
It has also been revealed that Hollywood icon and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone will only play a small role in Expend4bles, passing to torch to The Meg actor Jason Statham. “This will be my last day,” Stallone said during footage of himself on set of The Expendables 4. “I’m enjoying it, but it’s always bittersweet when something you’ve been so attached to – I guess since, well now it’s been about 12 years – and ready to pass the baton on to Jason in his capable hands.”
While it was unknown exactly how small Stallone’s role would be, he has since revealed that Expend4bles is “80%” The Stath, saying, “I heard it turned out pretty good. Jason Statham is 80 percent of it. He’s happy with it.”
EXPEND4BLES Will Add New Stars Like The Raid’s Iko Uwais as the Villain
The Expendables series first began back in 2010 and sees a host of beloved action stars take to the screen together. The Expendables has so far included the likes of Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas, and Wesley Snipes among its ranks, with The Expendables 4 due to add even more names to the ever-growing roster.
Thus, Expend4bles will add several new faces to the ensemble action thriller franchise, including Transformers star Megan Fox, Southpaw star Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Furious 7 actor and martial artist Tony Jaa, and Academy Award-nominated actor Andy Garcia. The likes of Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, Sheila Shah, and Eddie Hall have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Alongside this cavalcade of action heroes and A-listers, Expend4bles has found the perfect person to go head-to-head with Jason Statham’s character Lee Christmas – The Raid star Iko Uwais. Known for his penchant for martial arts, specifically the Indonesian art of silat, Uwais has demonstrated his affinity for action in the likes of The Raid, sequel The Raid 2, The Night Comes for Us, and Snake Eyes, and should make a more than welcome addition to the franchise.
“Experience is very valuable for me to share a frame with senior players, who have a lot of experience,” Uwais said of working alongside the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham on The Expendables 4. “There are a lot of things that we share, what we think about them, beyond expectations.”
Directed by Scott Waugh, Expend4bles is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 22, 2023, by Lionsgate. You can check out the poster below:
