The past couple of years has seen a huge revival for 90s fashion classics, one being tennis skirts for women. Unless you live under a rock, you’ll have noticed the fashion crowd donning the ‘retro’ silhouette among others – low-rise jeans, flared leggings, butterflies and resin rings being just a few.
Cycling shorts shot to the top of must-have lists last summer while tie-dye infiltrated our minds and our wardrobes in a v. big way. We even flirted with beaded jewellery for a short while. The renaissance of such trends is partly down to their nostalgic value: when things were uncertain (thanks to that virus), we found comfort in garments that remind us of simpler times.
As we plunge into summer, and Roland Garros, Wimbledon etc are all we’re watching on the TV, the 90s-inspired micro-trend that is tennis skirts is re-surging. Again. Yep, our love for all-things-vintage isn’t going anywhere. You heard it here first: tennis skirts for women are the latest trend to add to your wardrobe whether you’re taking to the court or not.

Need proof? Members of the fashion set have been seen dabbling in pleated minis as they play tennis and roam the city. Influencers, celebrities and fashion editors alike are looking to find a comfortable alternative to form-fitting mini skirts… or diversify their workout wardrobes in time for tennis season. And we’re here for it.
Granted, tennis skirts – reminiscent of private schools/dreaded sports days/cheerleading – give off a preppy vibe you might not feel confident in pulling off. But fear not. Said influencers of the world have – as per usual – offered up a lesson in translating the trend to real life, and it’s (pleasantly) much easier than expected.
