The Flash earns devastating opening weekend – worse than Black Adam

The Flash finally hit cinemas last week, continuing the story Zack Snyder began telling in Batman V Superman back in 2016.

This entry into the series capped off the journey in a lot of ways. Not only did it get rid of Henry Cavill’s Superman, but also Ben Affleck’s version of Batman, while resetting the timeline completely.

However exciting this may be, it apparently wasn’t enough of a draw to coax film lovers into cinemas over the weekend.

The LA Times has reported The Flash domestically (USA) earned a meagre $55.1 million over its opening weekend. (Via Comscore)

The same report wrote The Flash earned a further $75 million at international cinemas, making its final takehome around $130.1 million.

In the past two years, The Flash has endured a number of behind-the-scenes issues. Most notably, the arrest of its star Ezra Miller, who was charged with burglary.

The Flash is the latest picture in the DC Studios film repertoire to disappoint at box offices around the world.

The recently released Shazam! Fury of the Gods earned a pitiful $30.5 million at the box office.

And Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam earned $67 million in October, 2022, from domestic audiences.

These numbers mean The Flash actually earned less than Black Adam in the USA on opening weekends – but it is not over just yet.

The Flash still has the potential to earn back its $220 million budget over the next month, as there are no real threatening pictures hitting cinemas in the coming weeks.

The next major blockbusters to hit picture houses is Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 on July 14; while Barbie and Oppenheimer arrive on July 21.

The Flash is in cinemas now.
