It is harder than ever for movie studios to keep secrets about their big upcoming releases. As well as usually revealing more than necessary in several trailers and TV spots, screenings and premiere events have often led to the leaking of some pretty big set pieces, cameos and even the full ending before cinema audiences even have a chance to get in the queue for popcorn. This year’s release of The Flash has been going to extra lengths in order to prevent certain moments around the ending of the movie being released until the film hits theaters on June 16.
While the trailers for Ezra Miller’s first solo outing as Barry Allen have revealed what could be deemed spoilers in the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman and Michael Shannon as General Zod, along with the introduction of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and an international trailer seemingly showing the movie’s villain, Warner Bros. don’t seem to be ready for everything to be known and according to Variety have reportedly blurred out parts of the film’s ending in recent screenings to prevent leaks.
It has been suggested in other reports that multiple endings of the movie have been played to test audiences, meaning that many who have attempted to spoil the finale of the film for others are unlikely to have done so, and the film will not be getting its first full premiere until four days before the film hits cinemas worldwide. The real question that everyone needs to be asking now, is will the secrecy be worth it?
Is The Flash The Greatest Superhero Movie Of All-Time?
If the reviews/comments made about the movie so far are to be believed – and there have been many – then The Flash certainly seems to be one of the best received movies released under the departing DCEU banner. There have been very few negative comments made about the movie, and if the film is still holding back even more surprises, then it could certainly take its place among the greatest ever comic book movies.
It is still unclear exactly how The Flash will deliver its universe reset, if indeed it does, but on the whole it would appear that in some way the film will leave the DCEU only half a step away from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU.
Recently it was noted by James Wan that changes needed to be made to December’s release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to fit with the new plans, and that movie will now act as something of a closing chapter for the old franchise. In between now and then, Blue Beetle will also be released after being saved from the chop as a streaming exclusive and given a big screen release instead. There is still very little known about how Blue Beetle figures in the grander plan for the DCU, or even which regime it really belongs to, but a reasonable success for all three upcoming movies would certainly make up for some of the recent box office disappointments suffered by Warner Bros. DC content.
