The Flash has had a long and troubled journey to the big screen, including the Covid pandemic and falling in the middle of a transition period between the old and new DC universes. One of the people who feel like their time waiting for the movie’s arrival has been more painful than most is actress Kiersey Clemons, who plays Barry Allen’s love interest Iris West.
For some, Clemons appearance in The Flash may be the first time they have seen her in the role of Iris, and unless you have seen Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, that that would not be surprising as she was originally cut from the theatrical release of the movie. Now with the entire DCU being rebooted by James Gunn, it seems to the actress now feels free to tell how it has really been for her time in the franchise. She told Nylon:
“Now that [The Flash’s] out, I feel like for the last nearly 10 years, I’ve just been smiling and giving so much grace. I think it was to protect my peace of mind. Now I can finally say and admit this whole thing made me cry more than it made me smile. I think I only smiled over this thing at the premiere.”
One of the biggest problems for Clemons was when The Flash suffered the loss of its original director Rick Famuyiwa, making her wonder whether she had made the right choice to stick with the franchise and the movie.
“I was freaked out because at one point, there were rumors going around online that I was getting recast, which is humiliating,”
Kiersey Clemons Now Seems Done With The DCU.
While it seems like a dream job for any actor to be part of a big superhero franchise, it seems that Kiersey Clemons is more than happy to be now moving onto other things. Her next movie will be the dark comedy Susie Searches, which sees her playing a college student with a love of true crime stories and the mystery of a missing classmate to solve.
The first trailer for Susie Searches was released back in May, with the movie arriving in theaters on July 28. It is a very different movie to The Flash for Clemons, and playing the lead means that she doesn’t have play a side-character with only a limited screen time. This gives her a chance to shine in her own right in the directorial debut of Sophie Kargman. The movie also stars Alex Wolff, Jim Gaffigan, Ken Marino and Rachel Sennott.
Clemons has already recently starred in the Prime Video romantic comedy Somebody I Used to Know, and will subsequently also appear in The Young Wife. These movies, along with her role in The Flash have given Clemons plenty of exposure in a very short space of time, and it will not be long before she adds more future roles to this list.
