The Garland Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary With Old Hollywood Experiences And More

0

The Garland has been an iconic hotel in North Hollywood since its opening in the early 1970’s. With its retro chic atmosphere and charming details all along the seven-acre property, it aims to wow each guest. Now the boutique hotel is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary with a refresh that renewed its commitment to offering both visitors and locals true Old Hollywood experiences. Here are some special things you can try when visiting this urban oasis.

Sip Celebratory Cocktails and Wine

As part of its fiftieth birthday celebration, the hotel is offering its Garland 1972 cocktail. It’s made with fresh citrus juices, Plantation 3 Star Rum, Aperol, and Myers’s Dark Rum. The 1970’s brought with it colorful cocktails with fruits and sugars, and this cocktail pays homage to that and lives up to its name with its bright orange color. If you’re like me and don’t drink alcoholic beverages, you can also get a virgin version.

The Garland also has its first wine label called Sky Ranch Rosé. You can get a bottle from The Store by the hotel lobby or enjoy it at the hotel’s signature restaurant, The Front Yard. In fact, there’s a special where you can get Rose All Day at The Front Yard; $25 bottles the Sky Ranch Rosé are offered with the purchase of an entrée.

Go To A Block Party

The Garland’s Spring and Fall Block Parties are seasonal celebrations that bring guests together with people from all over the Los Angeles area and beyond. They include live music in the afternoon, pop-up shopping, gourmet treats from The Front Yard, and beer and wine tastings. You can also feel extra great about attending because each one benefits a local charity.

Take An Urban Walk

The Garland is within a couple of miles of many things that bring people to the area, including Universal Studios. Some special sights to see are within walking distance so the hotel offers free guided urban walks. If you take one, you’ll get to see such fun destinations as The Brady Bunch House in person.

Enjoy Vegan Dining Galore

The Front Yard, the elegant restaurant at The Garland, has vegan lunch and dinner menus that were specially curated by its Executive Chef Larry Greenwood. Whether you’re vegan or not, you’ll find irresistible dishes there. Appetizing choices include green garbanzo hummus, hearty salads, creative flatbreads, and portabella sandwiches.

Share Your Experiences

The Garland has an Instagram guide that could also double as a guide of where to shoot fun TikTok videos. Popular places to stop and take a selfie include the tiled walls on the pool deck, the greenery wall, the neon sign, and the warm, inviting lobby. You may also want to take a photo in the onsite movie theater.

Shop at The Store

With California-inspired books, stickers, gifts, and a variety of other unique things, The Store at The Garland only sells things that are locally sourced. Beverly Garland’s daughter, Carrington Goodman, personally selects each item that’s sold there. You can also get travel essentials there if you forget something on your trip.

Learn About Its History

One thing that’s sure to make your stay at The Garland even more memorable is to learn about its history before you arrive. If you’re going to Los Angeles for a taste of Hollywood, you’ll appreciate its past even more. The Garland was originally opened in 1972 by Beverly Garland, the Emmy-nominated actress who starred on the hit television show My Three Sons in addition to dozens of other televisions and films.

Many celebrities who have stayed at The Garland over the years and left some interesting tales behind. John Wayne, who was Beverly’s friend, threw champagne over the top floor balcony on the night The Garland opened. Dolly Parton declined the grand penthouse suite she was offered. Always remaining humble, Parton asked for a room like anyone else.

Television shows and movies have often filmed at The Garland, too. Steven Spielberg shot some of his first film, Duel, at The Garland. Barbara Streisand’s Guilt Trip also filmed here. So did such television shows as Dead to Me and Parks and Recreation.
