The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat will kick off the NBA Finals on Thursday. While Game 1 won’t determine the best-of-seven series, the league transported the Larry O’Brien Trophy to Ball Arena in dramatic fashion.
Hours before Game 1’s tipoff, the NBA posted a video of a skydiver jumping out of a plane with the trophy in tow.
After safely landing, the skydiver gave the prized possession to ESPN’s Malika Andrews, who buckled the trophy into her car’s passenger seat and drove to the stadium with a security escort.
The Larry O’Brien Trophy was then locked into a vault and rolled courtside. Here’s a look at its trip to Denver.

Perhaps the biggest question to ask here: Why? Taking the trophy airborne seemed like an odd risk given all the ensuing safety precautions.
Larry’s travel itinerary likely isn’t complete either, as the trophy could get presented in South Beach if the series ends in Game 4 or 6.
The Larry O’Brien Trophy will be safely stowed as Game 1 begins Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
