‘The Last Dance’ Producer Reportedly Filming LeBron James for Potential Documentary

Could we be witnessing what will ultimately become LeBron James’ version of The Last Dance

John Ireland, the radio play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Lakers, revealed on the Awful Announcing Podcast that The Last Dance executive producer Andy Thompson has been filming James and the Lakers with the notion that the footage could be used for a documentary.

“I hope I’m not talking out of school here. Andy Thompson, who is the guy who shot The Last Dance, Mychal Thompson’s younger brother, who has worked for the NBA for 30 years, has spent a ton of time with us this year,” Ireland said. “So if LeBron ever wanted to go down this road, I think Andy is stockpiling that just so he has it and has the opportunity to tell the story.”

“If we go on a magical run to the title, Andy, who was the driving force behind The Last Dance, most of the stuff you saw in those 10 episodes was shot by Andy Thompson,” he added. “And Andy’s a smart guy, he’s already working on, potentially, a story about the end of LeBron’s run like he had one for the end of Jordan’s run.”

The footage could also be used to track what has been a memorable 20th season for LeBron, who surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer this year. James’ playoff run has already consisted of silencing Dillon Brooks and the Memphis Grizzlies after he claimed to “poke bears” and called the four-time MVP “old.”

James’ oldest child Bronny announced last week that he’s committing to USC. After defeating the Golden State Warriors in Game 3, LeBron reflected on his son becoming the first person in his family, to his knowledge, to go to college.
