Morbius, the living vampire, has a new trailer. The Jared Leto-led Venom spinoff’s latest preview was released on Tuesday, and it shows off the character’s vampiric brand of justice and his (lacking) sense of humor.
Morbius follows Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who acquires a form of superhuman vampirism when trying to cure himself of a rare blood disease. We see bits and pieces of his transformation in this trailer, but the end result is a craving for blood and some extremely sharp-looking teeth. Despite (or maybe because of) his new affliction, Morbius still attempts to do right by the world, and becomes a very complicated and dangerous superhero.
This latest trailer also takes care to remind us that Morbius is set inside the same universe as Sony’s other Spider-Man and Spider-Man-adjacent properties. Michael Keaton shows up, reprising his role as Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Morbius himself makes a joke about being Venom — even though we’re not totally sure anyone in Venom’s universe really knows about Venom. This does confirm that all of these villains share a universe though, and that means they also share a connection to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Morbius is set to be released on Jan. 28, 2022.
