Freo locals have been left heartbroken as local vegetarian/vegan restaurant Mother (previously Raw Kitchen) has decided to close its doors after 14 years.
“It’s with mixed emotions that we announce today that we will be hanging up the aprons and closing the doors for the final time.”
Talking about shutting up shop, owners Emma and Heath say they’re ready for a change.
“Our lease is coming to an end, and we have decided it’s time for us to begin a new chapter of life…”
Sharing the news to their 24k Facebook fans and 31.3K Instagram followers, the couple were met with a devastated response.
“This is literally the worst thing that’s ever happened to me,” one customer said on Instagram.
Thanking their community for the support, the owners said the highlight had been the people they’ve met along the way.
“We have had the privilege of meeting such an incredible number of special souls — guests, staff, and beyond — that have changed our lives in countless ways. What a gift. Our sincere thanks.”
It seems the same sentiment was shared by loyal locals, with one commenting: “You have been one of the only restaurants that my husband and I could safely come to whilst he was healing from cancer.
“Your nourishing food and space healed us in more ways than you know.”
The final trading day for Mother will coincidentally fall on Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 14.
