In this day and age, Netflix users are too used to having to fight tooth and nail to get their fantasy shows a shot at renewal. The axe is unforgiving and spares not even the platform’s most beloved shows, including Lockwood & Co.
Despite its first season making it to Netflix’s top 10 chart following release, the screen adaptation of Jonathan Stroud’s book series was mercilessly canceled on May 12. Naturally, the fact that viewers had to wait for over three months for the news only made matters worse. However, against all odds, Lockwood & Co fans are ready to continue the fight.
Soon after the cancellation announcement, a petition to bring the show back from the dead started making the rounds in fan spaces and currently is almost at 6000 signatures. Over on Twitter, viewers have been campaigning for the show’s revival using the hashtag #SaveLockwoodandCo, and while there’s still a tiny bit of hope that Netflix might pick it up again, most folks have left that station behind, turning to other networks for assistance, such as Disney Plus.
The fans weren’t the only ones to not take the news lightheartedly, though. Lockwood & Co.‘s showrunner, Joe Cornish, has already expressed his disappointment with the situation, making sure to throw in some shade at Netflix for canceling a series with “stellar reviews.” And he’s objectively right. Netflix’s decision-making processes continuously stump its users, so much so that there’s barely any point in getting invested in any of its new projects. If the network’s most successful shows aren’t safe, is anything?
It’s too early to tell if LockNation’s efforts to save this fantasy series will pay off, but considering the struggle Warrior Nun fans have been met with, things aren’t looking good.
