The Repair Shop taken off air in BBC schedule shake-up

The Repair Shop returned to BBC One for season 12 back in March, giving some treasured items some necessary TLC in order to bring them back to life.

From a Ukrainian painting that survived a Second World War labour camp, to a ventriloquist’s dummy in need of a makeover, the talented team has had their work cut out for them this time around.

Last week was an NHS special, marking its 75th anniversary by reviving items like a hospital food trolley and a patient diary that belonged to writer Michael Rosen.

The week before, The Repair Shop paid tribute to the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush to the UK which welcomed contributions from the Windrush generation.

Unfortunately, there won’t be anymore tear-jerking moments to feel warmed by this week as a new episode isn’t airing.

Instead, it will be two-hour coverage of Wimbledon that takes its place as the iconic tennis contest continues to heat up.

Once again, Clare Balding presents as live coverage of the third day concludes where second-round matches in the men’s and ladies’ singles competitions takes place.

Yesterday, Scotsman Andy Murray came out on top on Centre Court when he claimed a 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ryan Peniston.

Sadly, it wasn’t the same success story for former champion Venus Williams, 43, who left in the first round after losing to 28-year-old Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

But The Repair Shop won’t be returning the following week either as the NHS special, was the 12th and final episode in season 12.

There is no need to worry though as the future is looking bright for the show as Jay Blades has already confirmed there will be more to come.

He told Hello magazine: “I think we’ve been commissioned for another two years if I’m not mistaken.

“We are going to do more. We’ve just won a BAFTA so I think they’re going to want us to stay on air.”

The Repair Shop won the BAFTA for A Royal Visit episode where the team visited King Charles III at Dumfries House in Scotland.

As of yet, there has been no word on exactly when it will return for season 13.

But in the meantime, reruns of old fan-favourite episodes are going to play in its place every Wednesday evening, starting from next week.

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
