As New York, London, Milan and Paris gear up for their autumn/winter 2022 showcases this week, it fell to Copenhagen Fashion Week to take the reins. And, as we’ve come to expect over the last few years, the Scandi fashion set did not disappoint.
With the likes of Gestuz, Ganni, Baum Und Pferdgarten, Stine Goya, Saks Potts, By Malene Birger, and Holzweiler on the schedule (more of those runway trends later!), there’s never anything but high expectations from the collections on show. Still, there’s another major draw for fashion fans when it comes to fashion week in these Scandinavian cities – and it’s all thanks to the street style set.
Arguably the best-dressed guests on the planet, Copenhagen Fashion Week never fails to provide serious style inspo when it comes to those attending the shows.
If London’s attendees are known for their eclectic eccentricity, New York’s for their polished minimalism, Milan’s for their rich visual extroversion, and Paris’ for their high-end statements, those pounding the pavements of Copenhagen during show season are undoubtedly the poster people for the most utterly joyful, colourful fashion worn by those that don’t take themselves too seriously.
Perhaps a terrifying prospect for those of you in a committed relationship with your neutral basics, the Scandi street style set make a compelling case for swapping your beiges and browns for acidic greens and sour lemon yellows. But for those of you who wince at the mere suggestion, may we suggest taking your cue from some of the more subtle-dressed guests this season.
It wasn’t all head-to-toe drama at CPHFW, with several women opting for a blindingly bright bag to add flavour to their brown trouser suit or a nearly-neon shoe peeking out beneath a neutral flared leg.
If you’re keen on trying full-colour but are a little intimidated to get started, try dialling down the saturation via an all-pastel ensemble as a great way to take a more tentative first step.
Tempted? Scroll down for some of the most *epic* street style moments from Copenhagen this week that have successfully convinced us that it’s time to retire the neutrals. For now, at least…
