The Season 2 Finale Of “The Boys” Was Jam-Packed — Here’s Where Everyone Left Off

0

So much happened in that finale.

It’s been a long year and a half since the Season 2 finale of The Boys.

But, mercifully, the wait for more is finally over on June 3.

For those of you who need a quick refresher, here’s a breakdown of where we left everyone in the last season — just in time for Season 3:

Butcher

Amazon

In the finale, just when we think Butcher might finally get to ride off into the sunset with Becca (and Ryan, albeit reluctantly), he instead has to watch his wife die — but not before tasking him with keeping her son safe.

When we last see him, he’s doing just that, by sending Ryan to go with Grace Mallory, who will hopefully keep him from turning into a mini-Homelander.

Ryan

Amazon

Before being whisked away at the end of the finale, Ryan spends some time grieving his mom with Butcher. They have a nice moment together, with Butcher giving him the Saint Christopher necklace Becca had given him to keep him safe, punctuated by Butcher reminding Ryan not to be a “cunt.”

Grace Mallory

Amazon

The last time we see Mallory, she’s letting Butcher know that all the charges against him and the rest of The Boys have been dropped, and that the White House is opening an Office of Supe Affairs, if he’s interested in an “off the books” job keeping tabs on the Supes.

Homelander

Amazon

Like Butcher, Homelander also loses his lady love in the finale. (Of course, Stormfront is technically still alive, but judging from the crispy state Ryan left her in after using his powers on her to try to protect his mom, it doesn’t seem likely she’ll be able to do much other than mutter to herself in German.)

After being rejected by his son, blackmailed by Maeve, and being forced to give a press conference denouncing his girlfriend as a nazi, Homelander is last seen masturbating over New York City and shouting, “I can do whatever the fuck I want!”

Hughie

Amazon

By the end of the season, Hughie is officially back with Annie (at least someone’s love life isn’t in shambles) and has decided if he’s going to fight Vought, he’s going to do it the right way — by working with the newly formed Office of Supe Affairs, led by Victoria Neuman. Of course, he doesn’t yet know Neuman’s big secret…

Starlight

Amazon

Starlight spends the season helping out The Boys to try to bring down Vought and is eventually declared a traitor by Stormfront — who she later beats the crap out of, alongside Maeve and Kimiko in the Season 2 finale. Afterward, Starlight’s name is cleared and she’s formally reintroduced back into The Seven by Homelander, one of her “best friends.”

Mother’s Milk

Amazon

Mother’s Milk also has a much happier Season 2 ending — after his name is cleared and the battle (not war, of course) against Vought is over, he heads home to be with his family again.

Queen Maeve

Amazon

It turns out if you blackmail Queen Maeve, she’ll blackmail you right back — and she’ll show no mercy. After she and the other girls get it done (the “it” being beating Stormfront’s ass), she proceeds to tell Homelander to stop being such a dick (i.e. let Butcher and Ryan go, leave her and her girlfriend Elena alone, and let Starlight back into the Seven) unless he wants her to show the world what really happened on that plane in Season 1.

Kimiko

Amazon

Even before Maeve and Starlight join in, watching Kimiko go to town on Stormfront is truly a highlight in the finale (even if we have to see her briefly die in between).

When we last see her, she’s smiling fondly at her brother’s paper cranes before heading off to go dancing with…

Frenchie

Amazon

I personally love all the cute moments between Kimiko and Frenchie in the Season 2 finale (and the whole season). Him telling her he has faith she can take on Stormfront, her asking him if he likes to dance, him translating for her, the absolutely murderous look in his eye when he thinks she’s been killed. True relationship goals.

A-Train

Amazon

After spending most of the season kicked out of the Seven due to his inability to run without having heart issues and turning to the cult-y, Fresca-loving Church of the Collective, A-Train is let back in in the finale — at which point he immediately leaves the church with a hearty laugh and a “peace out bitch!”

The Deep

Amazon

The Deep is not so lucky. He goes off on Alastair Adana, the Church of the Collective leader, who had promised he’d get him back into the Seven. Adana tells him he’s being “toxic” and asks him to leave, prompting a “fuck Fresca” from The Deep before he storms off in a huff.

Eagle the Archer

Amazon

The Deep can at least be thankful the church didn’t leak any embarrassing videos of him, the way they did when Eagle the Archer didn’t comply with their rules 100%. We last see him on TV giving an episode in the penultimate episode of the season.

Black Noir

Amazon

We also don’t see Black Noir in the finale at all, likely because he’s in a tree nut-induced coma, courtesy of Maeve, who stuffed an Almond Joy down his throat to keep him from killing Starlight.

Stormfront

Amazon

Will Stormfront even be in Season 3? Only time will tell. During the press conference in the Season 2 finale, Homelander says she’s being “held in an undisclosed location,” so she’s definitely alive.

Not only did she lose half of each of her limbs and an eyeball and was burnt alive all at the same time, but she also got her ass absolutely handed to her by Queen Maeve, Starlight, and Kimiko — it’s gotta be hard to come back from all that.

Stan Edgar

Amazon

The Vought CEO is last seen heading up the press conference held to try to do Stormfront damage control, announcing in the process that Compound V won’t be released to the public anytime soon.

Ashley Barrett

Amazon

Other than a quick glimpse of the long-suffering Vought employee at the press conference, the last time we see Ashley in Season 2, she’s babysitting Ryan and literally pulling her own hair out because she’s so stressed. Understandably so, considering she’d very recently been covered in blood and probably brains from exploding heads.

Victoria Neuman

Amazon

Speaking of which, we spend the last few minutes of the finale with the anti-Vought congressperson, who reveals herself (at least to the audience) to be a Supe by blowing up the head of Adana. She then goes to her office, where she hires Hughie to help her take down Vought “the right way.”
