Our resident beer writer (best job in the world, right?!) has sipped his way through everything from Emu Bitter to double hazy triple-IPAs.
Trying out this week’s sip, Jay Rooney gives his verdict on the Tinnie of the Week.
And he will tell you whether it’s worth cracking one with a mate.
BEER NAME?
American Pale Ale
WHERE’S IT FROM?
Black Brewing Co, a mainstay of the Margaret River craft beer scene.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
Black Brewing Co’s new seasonal release, American Pale Ale, has come just in time for the change in weather that autumn brings.
The Wilyabrup-based brewery has kept it simple, delivering a straight-forward pale ale without all the bells and whistles of other craft beers hitting the market.
But while keeping it simple, they have also produced a little gem.
Double dry-hopped with all-American hops, Black Brewing’s American Pale Ale pours a copper hue and delivers big resinous pine and citrus fruit notes on the palate.
There are also solid levels of dankness and bitterness that linger throughout.
But what makes this American Pale Ale a real winner is its rich malt base, which adds some caramel-like notes and a delightful smoothness to the experience.
Black Brewing’s latest release is simple yet well executed and worth grabbing, whether you’re a fan or newcomer to this style of beer.
SHOULD I SHARE IT?
Absolutely! This beer is very drinkable and carries a manageable ABV of 5.5 per cent.
