The ‘soft-curve bob’ is going to be everywhere this season and Selena Gomez is a major fan

Selena Gomez debuted a brand new bob on her Instagram this week and within hours it had millions (and millions) of likes. In fairness, the soft-curve bob has the type of #bobgoals fire power that can kickstart or resurrect a hair trend.

Break down the atomy of the cut and you have all the components for a very good hair day indeed. The cut itself is immaculate. The sloped A-line shape follows the contour of her jaw and helps her bone structure stand out, while the heavy shape adds swish and movement along the bottom, and creates volume horizontally (at the sides and edges of her hair rather than vertically, at the roots) for a cut that feels modern and cool.

The really great news? The cut does most of the hard work, so for off-duty days when Selena can’t be bothered with styling, the shape alone will hold its own. But for days when she can be bothered, the styling is a total selling point. Sleek, straight, luxe and glossy, the soft-curve bob has the polished finish that lots of us are majorly in the mood for (so long, messy waves).

You can bet that people are saving and pinning the cut to take to their hairdressers as we speak. However, this isn’t exactly the first time Selena has dipped her toe into bob territory. We reckon it’s a shape she’s been considering since before lockdown, as she teased fans with a faux bob, created by her hairstylist, Marissa Marino for the 2019 AMAs.

And while we can’t be sure, we think Selena gave the cut another coy road-test toward the end of last year, given her makeup artist shared a pic of the singer wearing a shorter version of the cut.

It’s not the first time Selena has opted for a sleek bob, she wore a sharper, sliced bob at the 2017 AMAs, but we’re loving the updated soft-curved shape she’s rocking now, and we’re not the only ones…
