SCOTLAND has a string of stunning beaches holidaymakers can visit over the Easter break without having to fork out hundreds on flights.
One scenic spot in particular has water so clear you can go snorkelling in it, and is home to the UK’s biggest tombolo – a stretch of white sand forming a pathway through the ocean.
Families keen to plan a staycation as the weather gets warmer can find a beach experience to rival the Carribean at St Ninian’s shores in the Shetland Isles.
St Ninian’s was previously rated Scotland’s best beach in 2022 by holiday rental site Holidu, according to the Daily Record.
The picturesque location earned a spot as one of the top five beaches in the whole of the UK.
The gorgeous beach has a sweeping strip of sand connecting mainland Shetland to the small island of St Ninian.
It boasts breathtaking views across the sparkling blue ocean.
The tranquil sea is perfect for a variety of water sports, including snorkelling.
Fun lovers can also entertain themselves by canoeing, sailing, or windsurfing.
The beach is also dog friendly, so furry friends are welcome to join the family roadtrip.
There are regular ferries that sail from Aberdeen to the Shetland islands, and once there the beach is easily accessible via bus or car.
Bigton is the nearest town to St Ninian’s, and the bus number 6 takes a route that stops just a four minute walk from the beach.
