The stupid parking move putting Perth kids’ lives at risk

A Perth driver was left shaken after a local resident’s stupid parking decision put a child at risk of being run over.

Guzy Bandola’s video shows a car parked over the footpath on Wimbledon Drive in Kingsley last week.

Because of how the car is parked, a young child on a bike is forced to ride on the road to go around.

Ms Bandola said it was a common occurrence in the neighbourhood.

“People are tolerant about it including myself,” she said.

“But this instance made me realise this should be changed and that something must be done to avoid tragic events in future.”

Ms Bandola shared the video on the Harrisdale and Piara Waters Chat Facebook page hoping to convince her neighbours to avoid making the same mistake.

“Neighbours please be aware,” she wrote. “I am shaken up until now. Still thinking what (the) worst could have happened earlier.”

Ms Bandola said if she hadn’t have been driving slow she wouldn’t have been able to stop in time and would have hit the child.

She was doing 37km/h, when the legal speed limit in residential areas is 50km/h.

“He (wouldn’t) have went on the road if it wasn’t for the car blocking his way,” she wrote.

“It could really have turned out dreadful and I surely would not have forgiven myself because someone decided to park their car along the pavement.”

Other members of the group urged Ms Bandola to upload the video to the Snap, Send & Solve app.

This app allows residents to report issues to their local councils.
