Fans are debating the merits of using a multiverse approach to Star Wars.

The discussion arose in the r/StarWars subreddit when it was suggested Disney should follow the path of Marvel and DC by introducing splintering realities to the space opera saga.

One thought that adding the multiverse to Star Wars at this point would be an exercise in futility.

Another agreed that it was unnecessary to tamper with the integrity of Star Wars to make it more palatable to a larger audience.

Some agreed that plenty of the films were less entertaining than others. However, they opined that a multiverse approach would only complicate the storylines.

Introducing the multiverse to Star Wars struck some fans as derivative, as they are more than content to keep things as they are.

One fan took a passionate stance and expressed dread at the notion of a Star Wars multiverse, pointing to the chaotic nature of recent Marvel efforts like Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Conceptualizing Star Wars as a multiverse seemed too complex and exhausting to other fans, who are satisfied with things the way they are.

Another die-hard didn’t mince words about why the multiverse had no place in Star Wars canon.

Smash hits like Everything, Everywhere, All At Once have proven that audiences can connect and relate with the multiverse without any complication, as long as its contextualized. Ultimately, whether or not the concept will work in Star Wars – or any other property – comes down to the caliber of storytelling.
