Ever daydreamed about your perfect wedding location? OF COURSE. Most of us have, even if we have no intention of err, actually getting married.
But chances are some of your wilder fantasies aren’t currently possible in England and Wales. As the law currently stands, weddings must take place in “preregistered venues,” making it more difficult to get creative when it comes to where you get married.
This could be about to change, though. The Law Commission has proposed that England and Wales follow Scotland’s suit and ditch this out-of-date law. This would mean that couples would be free to marry on beaches, parks, gardens, cruise ships – and even in their own living room if they want to.
As long as the wedding is conducted by a legally registered officiant, and the location is “safe and dignified” in the eyes of the law, you’d be all good.
The Law Commission’s report has called this proposal “the most comprehensive overhaul to weddings law since at least the 19th century.”
It’s been recommended that couples should be able to “get married in a much wider variety of locations, including outside in a place unconnected with any building, such as in a forest, on a beach or in a local park; in affordable local venues, such as community centres and village halls, as well as in their own homes; and in international waters on cruise ships that are registered in the UK.”
In our excitement, GLAMOUR has pulled together an exhaustive list, with a wedding location that suits every taste should this law be passed.

A favourite of locals and white beach fans alike, West Wittering is a largely unspoilt, natural beach situated near the beautiful South Downs. It’s a gem for an impromptu beach day or a white sand wedding.
