The top ten seaside resorts in the UK for your next staycation

A SMALL village in Northumberland has been crowned the UK’s best seaside town in a public vote.

Bamburgh topped the charts with an overall score of 87 per cent in a poll that ranked each destination’s beaches, value for money, food and drink, and tourist attractions.

The Which? study’s top ten also included tourist destinations such as Llandudno, St Andrews, Dartmouth and Tenby.

Surprisingly, Cornwall missed out on the top 10, with the tourist hotspot’s highest entry being St Mawes in 15th position.

Here’s the full top ten UK coastal towns and villages based on a survey of over 4,000 Which? members.

1. Bamburgh, Northumberland

Bamburgh was once the royal capital of the ancient kingdom of Northumbria.

Bamburgh Castle is a popular tourist attraction, standing 150 feet above the coastline for over 1,400 years.

2. Llandudno, Conwy

Llandudno is the largest seaside resort in Wales and its famous pier features rides, arcades, shops, and dining options.

Every year in the May bank holiday weekend, Llandudno hosts a three-day Victorian Carnival with vintage fairground rides.

3. St. Andrews, Fife

Located on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, St Andrews is famous for its architecture and attractions.

Tourists can visit the St Andrews Botanic Garden with over 8,000 species of native and exotic plants.

4. Dartmouth, Devon

An idyllic town, Dartmouth is famed for its many independent boutiques and fine dining.

A popular choice for adrenaline seekers, Devon is one of the best places for climbing, horse riding and white water rafting.

5. Tenby, Pembrokeshire

Tenby has been an essential leisure destination for over 200 years.

Steeped in ancient history, the town features attractions such as wildlife parks, golf courses and walking routes that offer unbeatable views of the coastline.

6. St. Davids, Pembrokeshire

Classed as the smallest city in Britain, St Davids is located in the western shore of Wales.

Boat trips are available to wild offshore islands where animal lovers can catch a glimpse of puffins, dolphins and whales.

7. Aldeburgh, Suffolk

Aldeburgh is known for its fantastic food offerings, with many restaurants serving the fish caught down at the pebble beaches.

The town is a former Tudor port and its shipbuilders were responsible for many famous vessels such as Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind.

8. Filey, North Yorkshire

With its long stretch of golden sand and picturesque views, Filey in North Yorkshire has become a popular tourist destination.

Quieter than other nearby coastal resorts, Filey is the perfect escapism from city life.

9. Conwy, Conwy

Conwy is located on the northern coast of Wales with the town being a world heritage site with its imposing thirteenth-century castle and walls.
