The Trailer for New RPG ‘Wander Stars’ Looks Just Like a 90’s Anime

0

Publisher Paper Castle has announced their new game Wander Stars, and released a trailer to go with it. This RPG takes heavy inspiration from anime in the 1990s.

Immediately you can see the anime inspiration from the trailer. The main character Ringo quickly announces her “Super Fire Kick” attack, with animation to go with it. The art style also looks very much like the anime from the 90s, along with the music playing. We get a look at a couple of battles that are in the game.

The menu has several words for you to pick from, and you can choose up to 7 words to make your own attack. The trailer also mentions that you will be able to befriend rivals, introducing a character named Wolfe.

Wander Stars is a turn based RPG that has roguelike elements. The story follows Ringo, who is looking for her brother, and Wolfe, a scoundrel who is running from his past. The two join forces in order to collect the pieces of the Wanderstar Map.

The gameplay focuses heavily on making your own attacks by combining words and finding techniques that work for you. You will be able to learn new words as you progress in the game for you to experiment with. Every place that you go to will have a randomized map, where you will be able to find treasures, rivals, special events, and more. The game will also have some replay value, as you can “replay episodes to learn hidden aspects of the story, find any events you missed, and train to earn permanent upgrades.”

Just from the short teaser we got, it’s clear that Paper Castle is working hard with this game to recreate the feel of a 90s anime show.

As of now, there is no release date for Wander Stars, and the game is on confirmed to be releasing on Steam. You can check out the announcement trailer below.
