We finally have some footage of the backstage altercation that led to the cancelation of the UFC 279 pre-fight press conference, featuring Khamzat Chimaev, Kevin Holland and Nate Diaz
Just a few hours ago before a completely shaken-up UFC 279 card kicks off in Las Vegas, the UFC has given a piece of what happened to cause the UFC 279 pre-fight press conference on Sept. 9 to be canceled as it was getting underway.
The footage comes straight from the UFC itself and sees Khamzat Chimaev attempt to get into the face of Kevin Holland before being forced back by security. Holland, however, quickly responds by trying to confront Chimaev as security desperately tried to get the two fighters separated.
“Say something now,” Chimaev yells at Holland. “F*** you, b****.”
“You’re not about that f****** life kid,” Holland responds.
Then Chimaev got into it with Nate Diaz, his originally scheduled opponent for the pay-per-view’s main event.
“You piece of s***,” Chimaev says. “Talk in interviews. Now say something. Everyone like playing gangsters now. C’mon, come here.”
A bottle can then be seen thrown with Chimaev threatening to “f*** up” both Holland and Diaz.
Ahead of UFC 279, UFC releases footage of backstage altercation involving Khamzat Chimaev, Kevin Holland and Nate Diaz
While the footage left fight fans relieved that some of Thursday’s altercation now has video evidence, some feel the UFC and Dana White overreacted and that the press conference could have still happened given the circumstances.
Some feel the UFC is still withholding more footage from the brawl, while others on social media feel it adds to the conspiracy the UFC may have altered the card and caused the pre-fight madness (including Chimaev’s weight miss) on purpose to bring more attention and last-minute ticket sales.
A select few are also critical of the UFC using the footage as pre-event hype.
The new UFC 279 main event following the drama of this week will see Diaz take on Tony Ferguson, while Chimaev and Holland face off in the co-main event.
UFC 279: Nate Diaz vs. Tony Ferguson takes place on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on site, for all your news and highlights.
