FLIGHT cancellations and airport chaos are ruining foreign holidays for thousands of Brits this summer.
However, holidaymakers don’t have to go abroad in order to soak up the sun.
Some recent research has revealed the best places to visit in the UK in order to avoid the rain, as well as the travel disruption.
The list, produced by Evans Halshaw, was created after analysing weather data for over 1,000 popular UK holiday destinations, in order to work out where has the most hours of sunlight.
The analysis considered the weather during April, July and October.
Coming out in joint top spot, with an average of 194 hours of 16C sun per month, were Bognor Regis in Sussex and Folkestone in Kent.
The two seaside towns are statistically the sunniest in the country, according to the research.
Bognor Regis is one of just three places in the UK to have a Butlin’s while Lower Leas Coastal Park is Folkestone’s top attraction according to TripAdvisor.
Sussex was also home to the next three towns on the list, with Eastbourne and Newhaven both averaging 192 hours of 16C sunshine per month, while Hastings has 191 hours.
Weymouth in Dorset was next in the table, followed by Herne Bay, Margate and Poole.
Clacton-on-sea, Dover and Bournemouth complete the top ten.
Those who don’t fancy a trip to the coast, but still want to enjoy the sun should head to Windsor, the sunniest non-coastal town in the country according to the study.
Kim Costello, from Pendragon, who own Evans Halshaw, said: “With continued restrictions on international travel many people will be considering a staycation this year rather than travelling abroad.
“Our data helps to highlight some of the UK’s favourite holiday locations, as well as, unveiling a number of hidden gems which offer a great alternative to the traditional British break.”
