In an exclusive ranking for Express.co.uk, the travel experts at Which? Travel have ranked this year’s sunniest staycation hotspots.

The team ranked destinations based on sunny weather and popularity so Britons from all over the UK should be able to find a sun-blessed spot not far from their home.

Whether Britons are looking for a day at the beach, a sunny city break or a rural escape, these sunny staycation spots have plenty to offer.

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel said: “With summer just around the corner, many of us will be wanting to make the most of the long-awaited sunshine.

“While the British weather is famously temperamental, we’re rounded up the best destinations in every corner of the UK where you’re most likely to enjoy a sun-soaked trip, whether you’re looking for a rural idyll or a bustling city break.”

The Isle of Wight grabbed the top place on the list and with 57 glorious miles of coastline, it could be the perfect place to catch some rays this June.

Around half of the island is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty while the Botanic Garden at Ventnor claims to be ‘Britain’s hottest garden’.

Average temperatures peak at 19 degrees in the Isle of Wight with an average of over seven hours of sunshine per day.

Wales’ sunniest town is St Davids, the UK’s smallest city. Just a 15 minute walk from the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline, Britons will enjoy golden beaches and secluded coves.

The leading staycation destination also has an impressive range of cultural sights, including the lavish Bishop’s Palace.

Tenby, another Welsh hotspot, grabbed third place on the list. With its maze of cobbled streets and award winning beaches, the sunny spot is another great place to unwind this June.

East Anglia’s Southwold enjoys an average June peak of 18 degrees and tourists rave about its picturesque Edwardian pier.

A favourite of the Princess of Wales, Cornwall’s idyllic Scilly Isles are often known as the ‘Cornish Caribbean’. The destination enjoys some of the UK’s mildest temperatures and is also a top-rated spot to see puffins.

Britons wanting to bask in the sun on a city break should check out Cambridge, one of the UK’s sunniest cities or Windsor, home to the mighty castle and Legoland.

When it comes to Scotland, North Berwick offers the best chance of sunshine while Strangford Lough is Northern Ireland’s sunniest destination.
