It seems like forever ago the first season of The Wheel of Time came to an end, but the Prime Video medieval fantasy series is getting ready for its return, and has released some important casting news for its upcoming second season.
During the franchise fan convention JordanCon, it was revealed that Ragga Ragnars, Maja Simonsen and Jay Duffy will join the second season of the show to play Bain, Chiad and Dain. Along with this announcement, it was confirmed that Rima Te Wiata will be playing Sheriam Sedai, as previously rumored.
Bain is a Maiden of the Spear of the Black Rock sect of the Shaarad Aiel. Her bonded first-sister is Chiad, who’s a Maiden of the Spear of the Stones River sect of the Goshien Aiel, while Dain Bornhald is a high-ranking officer of the Children of the Light. Sheriam Bayanar is a highly influential Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, and will probably play an important role in the next season.
Previously announced casting for season 2 include Donal Finn as a recast for Mat, Ayoola Smart as Aviendha, Guy Roberts as Uno Nomeshta, Arnas Fedaravicius as Mesema, Gregg Chillingirian as Ingtar Shinowa, Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand, and Natasha O’Keeffe in an unspecified but important role.
What to Expect from The Wheel of Time Season 2
Based on the novel by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine, who is part of an all-female organization called Aes Sedai. When she arrives in the city of Two Rivers, she will embark on a dangerous journey around the world with five young people. One of them was prophesied as “the dragon reborn”, which means that it will save or destroy humanity.
Season two will find the group separated, with Rand heading to the Aiel Wasteland in search of answers about his past; Egwene and Nynaeve learning to control their powers which can lead them to the White Tower; Perrin picking up the ax for the first time and possibly pursuing Padan Fain in search of revenge; Moiraine and Lan have to get used to her new condition now that she can’t channel and the link between Aes Sedai and Guardian is gone; and Mat seemly turning to the dark side.
The first season of The Wheel of Time was a success for Prime Video, although it was somewhat unfortunate in the timing of its release. Arriving in close proximity to the much more publicized and controversial Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power did overshadow the series. However, despite its hefty budget, the show did enough to get a second season renewal, and Prime Video have already announced a third season will go ahead. Robert Jordan’s book series spans many novels, and there is plenty of story to be told, but only if fans are on board for the ride.
The Wheel of Time season two will see the return of stars Rosamund Pike, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, and Daniel Henney.
