Season two of The Witcher has finally arrived on Netflix, after a fair wait for new episodes.
The eagerly-awaited release of the exciting fantasy programme has been coming for two years , since season one last ended. New eps have been teased for what feels like a lifetime, with fans being treated to an epic trailer back in October, which got us even more excited for what’s to come.
The streaming service also released the synopsis for the new series earlier this year, which read:
“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
After the first season built up a huge fan base and smashed records – becoming the streaming site’s most-watched debut ever at the time (an accolade then taken by Bridgerton) – viewers had been waiting for updates since the 2019 finale.
But a series of setbacks and delays on set meant that filming and production was pushed back time and time again, hence why over two years has passed.
Production was initially paused due to the pandemic in March 2020 before resuming in June, when the second season was slated for a December 2020 release. But then in November, the team were forced to stop again after a number of positive coronavirus tests on set.
Henry Cavill’s injury also delayed season 2 further. The actor suffered a ‘minor leg muscle injury’ on set, according to Deadline, which forced him to take a break from filming.
Series two sees Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya (Ciri) Allan all returning to reprise their roles, as well as new additions such as Yasen Atour (Young Wallander) Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) and Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl).
While the new episodes only dropped on 17th December, fans have already been racing through, and can’t seem to get enough.
For one, it seems that those watching are pleased with the ‘less confusing’ timeline of this series, which does not follow last season’s non-linear approach.

“The second season of #TheWitcher is proof that sometimes stories work better when you keep them simple. It took me weeks to watch season 1 because the non-linear timeline was so confusing. I watched season 2 in one night (oops) because not being confused allowed me to immerse,” said one user.
Another added: “The witcher season 2 is a big step up in quality and production. The linear storytelling helps a lot with this. Was good fun!”
Many who enjoyed the series have also spoken of how they are now looking toward a series three of the show, which they believe has been set up nicely. Luckily, season three has already been confirmed!
