Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is still stunned that Jeff Van Gundy is not employed by ESPN anymore.

Van Gundy was part of the layoffs that took place at the network last Friday after he was with the network for the last 16 years. He was usually on the call for the NBA Finals with Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.

Russo spoke during a recent episode of his podcast on Monday and thinks that it wasn’t ESPN that let Van Gundy go. He thinks NBA Commissioner Adam Silver did.

“I can’t fathom the idea that ESPN would fire Jeff Van Gundy. You are going to have trouble convincing me that was not done by Adam Silver,” Russo said.

This is pretty bold of Russo to say considering that he appears on the network.

There’s no way that he would say anything like that while on air so it’s interesting that he’s saying this here.

It’s definitely an interesting thought since Van Gundy was doing a tremendous job before he was laid off.
