Only four California restaurants — three from Orange County and one in Malibu — made Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2022 in the U.S.
Fermentation Farm in Costa Mesa snagged the No. 3 spot; No. 11 is The Vox Kitchen in Fountain Valley; No. 58 is Lido Bottle Works in Newport Beach; and No. 86 is Moonshadows in Malibu.
Cocina Madrigal, a “father-and-son-owned eatery serving Oaxaca fundido and beef birria enchiladas” in Phoenix, Arizona, topped the list according to an announcement on Yelp’s website. The roster ranged from a few James Beard award-winners “serving up gently priced fine dining,” to Fermentation Farm, which was described as a “quirky” favorite.
This is the ninth annual survey and Yelp explained its methodology on its website: “We first reached out to Yelpers for their favorite dining spots. Then, we ranked each by total number of submissions, ratings, reviews and geographic representation, among other factors.”
Community Managers around the country finalized the rankings. They are members of the Yelp team across the country, “whose job it is to grow the local Yelp community, both online and off, and keep their finger on the pulse of their city,” said a spokesperson for Yelp.
