These are the best Muslim-owned beauty brands to support this Ramadan (and beyond)

0

Ramadan is now fully underway, bringing with it a month of fasting, self-reflection and prayer for Muslims all over the world. During this time, many Muslims choose to abstain from food and water during the day, only breaking their fast after sunset.

It’s also a time dedicated to both charity and faith, which can often involve connecting with your respective communities and making a conscious effort to be more supportive to others. That means that for us makeup and skincare enthusiasts, it’s also a great time to support Muslim-owned beauty brands.

It’s hard to deny that there’s still a lot of improvement that can be made when it comes to Muslim representation in beauty. Sure, there are some – namely Huda Beauty – that can easily be considered among some of the biggest names in the industry. But at the same time, it’s definitely worth putting the spotlight on some Muslim-owned brands that are less well-known (though certainly not lacking in quality).

To celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, we’ve put together a full edit of the best Muslim-owned brands worth shopping from, including companies that specialise in inclusive makeup, skincare, haircare, Middle Eastern-inspired fragrances and even false eyelashes. We’ve also taken the liberty of including some of their very best products for you to peruse. So sit back and enjoy.

Huda Beauty

Founded in 2013 by Huda Kattan, Huda Beauty is easily one of the most recognisable beauty brands today. As an American-born woman with parents of Iraqi descent, Huda started her business in Dubai after building a reputation as a world-renowned beauty blogger and makeup artist. Since launching false eyelashes as its first product, the brand has since expanded into a range of eyeshadow palettes, foundations, liquid lipsticks and more. And in 2018, Huda Beauty branched out into perfumery with the launch of Kayali, a venture led by Huda’s sister Mona Kattan that’s known for popularising the Middle Eastern tradition of perfume layering.
