These Are The Cars And SUVs You Can Still Lease For Around $200 Or Less

To paraphrase Shakespeare, this is the summer of new-car shoppers’ discontent. Dealer inventories remain thin, while consumer demand still runs strong, with both forces colluding to drive transaction prices ridiculously high. The average monthly new-vehicle payment now stands at a whopping $700, with down payments hovering around six grand.

Leasing, rather than buying and financing a new model, remains a viable path to lower both payments and up-front costs, albeit for a two- or three-year term. Still, those who can remain flexible regarding their vehicular choices can still find some genuinely affordable lease deals on select models, though they neither as rich or plentiful as we’ve seen in recent months.

At that, we were able to uncover 17 current new-vehicle deals being offered this month with monthly payments running near or below the $200 threshold, and we’re featuring them below. The selection runs the gamut from small crossover SUVs and sedans to a pair of electrified rides—including the Nissan Leaf EV—and the midsize Subaru Legacy all-wheel-drive sedan. The Blue Plate Special of the bunch is the subcompact Hyundai Venue crossover, which is going for a mere $159 per month, with just under $3,000 down (which includes the first month’s payment).

All of the offers presented here are good through the end of May, and typically apply to base models within a given line, with options, taxes, and fees not included. Note that the best lease terms are almost always limited to those having top credit scores. And be aware that some of these offers may not be offered in all parts of the country, or may carry slightly costlier terms depending on the region, so be sure to log onto a manufacturer’s website under a “special offers” or “local deals” tab, or contact a local dealer to see what’s being offered where you live.
