Pretty curls and coils already offer up movement and definition, but to emphasise curl patterns even further, tactical highlights can help to shine a light on each kink and make the texture pop – a bit like hair contouring. Your colourist should make the highlights bespoke to your hair shape and texture, going curl by curl. A pretty technique for spring is to highlight curls where the light would naturally hit, especially on the tips and around the face, to brighten complexions. Caramel, honey and amber tones work especially well for this.

While it’s not the default direction most of us tend to head in for spring/summer, an ultra deep cassette brunette hair colour is edgy, unexpected but still super pretty. It has a grit and depth you can’t get from blonde. “Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, and Megan Fox are all sporting off-black hair,” says Tom Smith, Evo Hair’s International Creative Colour Director. “It may look black from first impression, but what we’re actually seeing is the darkest brunette, with a very, very cool tone,” he says. Recently we’ve seen natural blondes and mousey brunettes looking to get in on the action by switching to ultra deep cassette brunette shades.
