These weatherproof hairstyles are as practical as they are chic

Depending on if you want to be snatched, sporty or classic, the numerous different placements of a ponytail creates an endless number of looks. A snatched ponytail is a super slick pony and a tight hairline to give you a lifted look and accentuate cheekbones. My secret trick is spraying a tooth brush with hairspray when you finish and brushing the hair line to keep fine hair and flyaways in place.

Or, you could go for the classic ponytail, which is a great look for everyone. I like to start with the right cocktail of products. I start with Virtue Volumizing Primer at the roots and apply heat with a hair-dryer. Once dry, I add a bit of texture spray along the mid lengths and use fingers to comb the hair back and gather it with my supporting hand. I love a bungee elastic for tying a ponytail because it helps not lose the position or shape when securing. Pro tip: to minimise sagging at the nape of the neck, look up when you’re tying the ponytail.

The Knots

For a chic and simple hairstyle, opt for the classic low knot. Secure your hair at the nape of your head using a bungee. Make two sections with the hair and twist them together. Wrap them around the bungee and secure it with bobby pins. To finish, I like to use Virtue Style Guard Spray Hairspray to keep everything in place. To mix up the look, try a side knot for an elegant alternative. Gather all your hair and push it towards the side you want to show off your knot on. 

Bantu Knots

This style consists of one-to-two-inch box sections all over the head, which are tied into tight ponytails using small elastics. Once you have sectioned the hair, twist each strand tightly using a hair mask, like Virtue Restorative Treatment Mask or Flourish Mask for Thinning Hair, to keep hair nourished. As you keep twisting, it will create a neat, knotted bun that you can hold the knot in place using a clear elastic or a small bobby pin.
